RGS Introduces RGS Windows Wi-Fi Learning Device

RGS, a business unit of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), today introduced the RGS Windows Wi-Fi Learning Device, a new high-performance digital learning device built to leverage the power of the Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro operating system with the robust Intel® Education Software (IES) suite to optimize the digital learning experience. The new RGS-branded Windows Wi-Fi Learning Device expands the RGS portfolio of education solutions which combine hardware, software, professional development, curriculum and other classroom support services to help schools make the transition to a technology-enabled education environment.

The device, which is available in two form factors – Clamshell (capacitive touch and non-touch) and 2-in-1 Detachable Tablet with Keyboard Docking Station – is ruggedized to withstand the expected wear and tear of a classroom environment. Rubberized impact absorption offers drop protection, while a torque-resilient design, reinforced hinges and ports, as well as a spill-resistant keyboard, help keep devices running smoothly. In addition, each device comes with installed Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) applications from Intel® Education Solutions, Advancing Education Worldwide. A snap-on magnification lens, thermal probe and built-in camera further extend the utility of the device.

“We designed the RGS digital education portfolio to help school districts make the connection between experiential learning and technology in the classroom – in an easy and cost-effective manner,” said Scott MacDonald, vice president and general manager, RGS. “Unlike many other devices on the market that are being adapted to meet the demands of digital learning, RGS-branded devices are built specifically for the classroom, and to be compatible with the robust learning applications available through Intel® Education Solutions.”

“We’ve seen that effectively incorporating 21st century learning tools into a classroom can transform an education experience,” said Margo Day, vice president, US Education at Microsoft. “RGS has created devices especially for an education environment including a variety of options important to educators and students such as digital inking and touch, which has been shown to improve learning outcomes.”
