RIBA Venues – Event Venues are still Experiencing High Uptake despite aTough Economy

The power of meeting face to face has been realised by businesses and despite a tough economy, recent data shows that venue hire uptake is high.

13 May, 2015 – U.K - Despite a tough economy, businesses are still choosing to hire event space so that they can hold face to face meetings. There are plenty of cheaper methods of conducting conferences and meetings such as video conferencing and teleconferencing however they lack the personal touch which people are finding so important in business now.

According to a new study by Successful Meetings, more than 90 percent of European buyers predict the continent’s meeting business will hold steady or grow over the next year.  The same percentage believes the volume of meetings will either increase or stay the same during the same period.Reed Travel Exhibitions’ IBTM Global Meetings Industry Research also found the top five countries for events, by volume, were Spain, Italy, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and France. Sally Greenhill of The Right Solution Ltd said “the research illustrates just how strong the flow of inbound and outbound business is for Europe, with the impact of economic problems in the Eurozone and elsewhere in recent years beginning to wane.” She went on to say that “The research shows the strength of the meetings industry across the continent… For the first time in recent years, the survey predicts that the global economy will not impact conference business in the next 12 months.”

Stephanie Ellrott from RIBA Venues, a London conference venue, said that “The meeting industry in London has proven strong, with many organisations using meeting spaces for team-building exercises, conferences, and networking. We are a conference venue in London, and our business is thriving.” She went on to say that “We think businesses recognise the value of human. Meeting face to face helps to build connections and knowledge among participants, which are critical to business’ success.”

Sixty-five percent of respondents said they used social media to communicate with attendees before, during or after conferences. Other research supports that technology plays an increasing role in modern meetings. For example, 42 percent of respondents to a recent study of conference-planning professionals said technology would become more important to the meetings industry in coming years.

Ms Ellrott said that “More and more businesses are asking to incorporate technology to engage participants. It’s important that businesses have modern facilities for their conferences, and we make that happen.”
