Office Depot, Inc. and Veterans Advantage Announce New Military Discounts to Benefit U.S. Veterans, Families

Office Depot, Inc. (NASDAQ: ODP), a leading global provider of office products, services, and solutions and parent company of Office Depot and OfficeMax, today announced a partnership with Veterans Advantage to reward military veterans and their families with an exclusive 20 percent discount on select purchases at Office Depot and OfficeMax retail stores nationwide or on officedepot.com.

Active duty and retired military, veterans, National Guard and Reserve, and their families enrolled in Veterans Advantage are eligible for the discount on office supply purchases. Veterans Advantage discounts are available every day on regularly-priced items and can be combined online with the company’s standard free delivery on qualifying purchases of $50 or more within our local delivery areas.

In addition to the exclusive 20 percent everyday savings, Veterans Advantage members will be eligible for a limited-time offer of 300 free business cards (a nearly $20 value) as a Memorial Day gift. Veterans Advantage members may redeem the free business card offer at Office Depot and OfficeMax retail stores through May 31, 2015. Other exclusive savings for members will be refreshed throughout the year.

“We are honored to offer Veterans Advantage discounts for our active-duty military, veterans and their families,” said Tim Rea, executive vice president and chief marketing officer for Office Depot, Inc., a former Army officer. “Having served in the U.S. Army for four years, I know firsthand the importance of giving back to the members of Veterans Advantage, who have served and defended our country every day.”

Since its inception in 2000 by prominent Vietnam veterans and leading brand-name partners, Veterans Advantage has managed a member-based benefits program that seeks greater respect, recognition and rewards for service to the country. The program offers members hundreds of new military benefits in partnership with top Fortune 500 companies that use the Veterans Advantage platform to market and verify their military offers.

“We are delighted to partner with Office Depot and the opportunity to offer Veterans Advantage members these excellent discounts every day, including this Memorial Day,” said Scott Higgins, founder and chief executive officer of Veterans Advantage and a Vietnam War veteran. “Veterans Advantage is about recognizing the debt of gratitude we owe those who served and continue to serve our country and their families. Our partners are committed to providing real financial benefits for our members with meaningful lifestyle savings on travel, entertainment, electronics, athletic gear, financial products and healthcare purchases. Office Depot has worked to create a Veterans Advantage discount on its office products, supplies, and services for an important and tangible ‘thank you’ for service,” Higgins added.

Office Depot will use Veterans Advantage’s verify technology platform to check eligibility for its Veterans Advantage discounts. Members will login with their VetRewards Card Member ID and unique password to a custom site for members on officedepot.com. There, they can redeem a unique code to use at online checkout or print an in-store coupon created for each shopping session.

Note: Veterans Advantage protects veterans’ privacy with the VetRewards Card, the first nationally-recognized secure military ID for the over 100 million Americans eligible for their military discounts. Recent reports from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) show that military and veterans who use their government-issued military identification (IDs) to verify their military status report double the rate of ID theft compared to the general population. Further, it is a federal offense to copy or upload a military ID online, a practice prohibited due to the increased risk of terrorism. Veterans Advantage deploys state-of-the-art privacy protection within its verify technology platform to safeguard veterans’ military and personal information with the VetRewards Card Member ID.
