BioAlberta Announces Mel Wong as President

The BioAlberta Board of Directors announced today that Mr. Mel Wong has been appointed BioAlberta’s new President. Mr. Wong will take up his duties on August 4th, 2015. Ms. Aggie Mikulski will continue in the role of Interim President of the Association until then.

“On behalf of the BioAlberta Board of Directors, I’m delighted to welcome Mel to BioAlberta. He is extremely experienced and well-connected to Alberta’s life science community and we’re confident that he can help lift BioAlberta to a whole new level of effectiveness” said Dr. David Cox, Executive Chair of the Board. “We’re very fortunate to have secured him and are excited to see where he will take the Association”.

Mel brings a wealth of government management experience, intimate knowledge of life sciences, as well as an extensive network of international, intergovernmental and industry relationships. Prior to his appointment as President of BioAlberta, Mel served as the Assistant Deputy Minister of Technology and Industry Partnerships Division at Alberta Innovation and Advanced Education for over ten years. Prior to that Mel held the Executive Director’s role in the Research and Technology Commercialization Division of Alberta Innovation and Science and several other management roles within the Government of Alberta.

Mel graduated from the University of Lethbridge with a Bachelor of Arts and Science in Economics. He also holds a Management Development Certificate from the University of British Columbia.
