Social Entrepreneur and Leadership Expert, Danielle Harlan, Issues a Call-to-Action for Millennials

Danielle Harlan, Ph.D., Founder and CEO of the Center for Advancing Leadership and Human Potential, outlines concerns about the traditional “Alpha” model of leadership and discusses the growing movement of “new Alpha” leaders—people who are redefining success to encompass achievement, fulfillment, and impact.
PRLog - July 6, 2015 - SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Social entrepreneur and Millennial leadership expert, Danielle Harlan, recently gave a talk as part of TEDxLosGatosHighSchool (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sjrMPwT0tA) aimed at reengaging Millennial leaders, entrepreneurs, and change makers with an alternative model of leadership that gives equal priority to realizing big goals, finding happiness and meaning in work and life, and being a force for good in the world.

Current research suggests that Millennials, who will comprise up to 75% of the workforce by 2025, feel disconnected with the status quo model of leadership—especially the focus on money and power—and seek to influence current and future power structures in a way that aligns more closely with their core values: doing meaningful work, forging social connections, and positively affecting the world and society around them.

In this talk, Harlan discusses the “new Alpha” philosophy and describes the framework through which these leaders take action to realize their aims: a commitment to personal excellence; an understanding of self and purpose; and the knowledge, skills, and mindset to bring big ideas to life.

In closing, Harlan urges disconnected and disenchanted Millennial leaders to reengage in local and world leadership: “If you are waiting for someone else to come along, someone with more experience, with better credentials, or just more know-how than you, to fix that problem that you see, or to make that change that you think needs to be made, or to give you permission, then you may very well be waiting forever . . . change begins now and it begins with us.”
