American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association names "Avoidable Contact" by Tammy Kaehler Motorsports Book of the Year
PRLog - July 8, 2015 - SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Avoidable Contact by Tammy Kaehlerhas recently been named the Motorsports Book of the Year by the American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association (AARWBA).

The largest and oldest organization dedicated to auto racing coverage, the AARWBA (http://www.aarwba.org/) was founded in 1955.  Each year, the AARWBA presents a variety of awards to those who have made an outstanding contribution to racing.  In addition, the AARWBA selects an All America Team of drivers from Open Wheel, Stock Car, Sports Car, Drag Racing, Short Track, Touring Series and At Large championship categories, and awards a scholarship to an up-and-coming young driver who displays the attributes of a future champion.  The AARWBA also established the Legends in Racing Auto Racing Hall of Fame.

Published by Poisoned Pen Press, Avoidable Contact is Kaehler’s third mystery to feature professional race car driver Kate Reilly.  The Kate Reilly Racing Mystery Series also includes Dead Man’s Switch (2011) and Braking Points (2013). In addition to winning the 2014 Motorsports Book of the Year Award for Avoidable Contact, Kaehler was also honored with the 2013 Motorsports Book of the Year Award for Braking Points.

Kaehler’s series has garnered high praise from critics, readers, and racing insiders:

“Snappy dialogue, a smart and affable heroine (who calls to mind auto racer Danica Patrick), and pacing reminiscent of 24 combine to make this entry as exciting as a spin around the speedway.” –Publishers Weekly  on Avoidable Contact

I have absolutely loved watching how Kate has developed and enjoyed how close to reality Kaehler has made so many of the racing-related storylines that Kate finds herself in. This series always leaves me wanting more.” –Female IndyCar driver Pippa Mann

“Kate’s second outing is just as fast-paced as her first, balancing mystery and racing adventure all the way to the checkered flag.” —Kirkus Reviews on Braking Points

“A breathless joyride,” New York Times best-selling author William Kent Krueger on Braking Points

“A winning debut…[readers] will appreciate Kaehler’s vivid descriptions of the intricate teamwork involved in racing, the amazing equipment, the split-second decision making required of the driver, and the pulse-pounding race itself.” – Publishers Weekly on Dead Man’s Switch

“A hot debut….Kaehler’s clear explanations of technical jargon make the racing world come alive.” –Library Journal on Dead Man’s Switch

Tammy Kaehler discovered the racing world via a stint in corporate marketing, and she was hooked by the contrast between its top-dollar, high-drama competition and friendly, family atmosphere. Mystery fans and racing insiders alike have praised her award-winning Kate Reilly Racing Mystery Series (Dead Man’s Switch, Braking Points, and Avoidable Contact), and Tammy will take readers back behind the wheel in her fourth entry, Red Flags, due in April 2016. She works as a freelance writer in the Los Angeles area, where she lives with her husband and many cars.
