Domeshells Schedules Second Bamboo Dome Building Workshop

Domeshells, a business in Billinudgel, NSW, Australia, is proud to announce that they are launching their second bamboo dome building workshop. This comes after the considerable success experienced during the pilot workshop. They encourage everyone who is involved in disaster reconstruction to sign up for the workshop that will run during November and December.

"Our workshops will show anyone from the disaster manager to DIY enthusiasts how to build bamboo domes," says Chris Brown from Domeshells. "These buildings have considerable advantages over other emergency shelter solutions and they are increasing in popularity. In fact, people have now started constructing them in their own gardens because they look beautiful as well."

Using bamboo to construct cheap yet strong ferro cement dome survival shelters is becoming increasingly popular. DIY and alternative builders across Australia and overseas have found themselves captivated by these methods. While the original design was created focusing on survivalists, they have proven to be particularly popular in disaster management as well.

"The domes are the perfect solution for areas where disasters have taken place," adds Chris Brown. "Take poorer countries and areas, such as the Philippines and Vanuatu, where cyclones have left hundreds of people homeless, for instance. Their needs can be addressed quickly and efficiently using mostly locally available, sustainable materials. This means the cost is greatly reduced as well."

Bamboo domes can be constructed using bamboo, mesh and render. All these materials are abundantly available at low costs and have a very low environmental impact. Put them together, and a beautiful building can be created. DIY enthusiasts have signed up for the workshop because they see the potential these types of domes have for alternative living. For instance, a number of people have now started to build their own personal 'Hobbit houses', based on J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit and the subsequent movie.

For Domeshells, the fact that they can contribute to people who have suffered terrible hardship through natural disasters or other situations is something that they are very proud of. People are encouraged to sign up for the workshop as soon as possible, so they can also play a role in making the world a better place.
