Humana Recognized As Leader In Climate Change Accountability

Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) has been identified as a U.S. leader for the quality of climate change-related information that it has disclosed to investors and the global marketplace through CDP, the international not-for-profit that drives sustainable economies. This distinction awards Humana a position on the S&P Climate Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI), released today in the S&P edition of CDP’s annual global climate change report.

Humana earned its position on the index by disclosing high-quality carbon emissions, energy data and a strategy to address climate change-related risks through CDP’s climate change program. The reported data has been independently assessed against CDP’s scoring methodology and marked out of 100. Those organizations graded within the top 10 percent constitute the CDLI. Humana scored 100 on the disclosure index placing it at the top in the healthcare sector.

“Environmental sustainability is a part of the culture at Humana, and we’re honored to be recognized for our energy efficiencies and disclosure efforts,” said Tim Huval, Senior Vice President & Chief Human Resources Officer at Humana. “We’re intentional about reducing our carbon footprint and sharing the impactful results with the business community and more importantly, the communities we serve.”

Humana’s dream to help people achieve lifelong well-being powers the company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) through the areas of Healthy People, Healthy Planet and Healthy Performance. Humana’s commitment to encouraging a healthy planet involves continually establishing and reporting metrics and benchmarks to measure environmental and social impacts and progress. By the end of 2017 Humana will achieve: five percent energy and emissions reduction from a 2013 baseline and a 40 percent waste diversion rate.

For the eighth consecutive year, Humana has been recognized as a leader on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and ranked No. 25 on Newsweek’s 2015 Green Rankings. To learn more about Humana’s CSR efforts, please read its CSR Report and visit www.humana.com/csr.
