We let the cat out of the bag in Brussels

By: PRLog
#BrusselsLockdown - Rather than give in to fear, Belgians have responded on social media with a defiant sense of whimsy. And cat pictures: lots and lots of cat pictures.
Nov. 25, 2015 - PRLog -- Brussels has been in the eye of the storm this past week. The way the city and its inhabitants handled the situation was exemplary and generated worldwide sympathy. VISITFLANDERS, Visit Brussels and Wallonie-Bruxelles Tourisme want to show their support to the capital of Belgium and to the people in Brussels. That’s why we let the cat out of the bag in Brussels during the #Brusselslockdown. The result? A 20-second surreal ode to Brussels with more than 50 millions views on Facebook and Twitter.

On Monday, November 23, the camera crew went to the centre of Brussels. Even though the city was in lockdown, they met smiling locals, enthusiastic tourists and a suspiciously high number of cats. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AB6K7rWlG4

What happened:
As the investigations intensified in Brussels, the authorities requested that Belgians refrain from posting messages on Sunday that might expose or interfere with police operations. Residents and visitors decided to respond with what will now be known as an internationally recognized symbol of solidarity: cat pictures. Within the hour, thousands of magical Internet memes were deployed to cut the tension and to make sure that any leaking of operational details were drowned out.
