Heaton House Farm, Cheshire’s premier wedding venue played host to Olympic cyclist Joanna Roswell’s wedding in July 2015.

The 26-year-old gold medallist married Daniel Shand, an accountant and former cyclist, in a civil ceremony held at the countryside venue. Joanna was introduced to Daniel by her Olympic teammate Lizzie Armitstead several years ago. Looking radiant in a pink lace dress, Joanna was accompanied by four bridesmaids, Keeley and Natalie Shand plus two fellow national cyclists Dame Sarah Storey and Lizzie Armitstead.

The wedding and reception were both lively events, which everyone, including the venue hosts, seemed to enjoy greatly. The whole day was full of beautiful personal touches.

Sarah Heath, the venue’s Business Development Coordinator, said:

We were over the moon when we found out that Joanna had chosen Heaton House Farm to host her special day. Her wedding was perfect from start to finish and we loved the personal touches that she brought in such as the old-fashioned merry-go-round, and the carousel themed cake, as that is where they went on their first date… a truly magical experience and we are privileged that they let us be a part of it.”

There were 100 daytime guests who were later accompanied by an extra 30 evening guests. The ceremony took place at 2pm under the beautiful Green Oak Pagoda, with a local quartet providing the music for the civil ceremony.

The time between the end of the ceremony and the start of meal was filled by a drinks reception where Prosecco was served. There was also entertainment laid on with guests being offered the chance to enjoy Frisbee games, soft football as well as giant bubbles. Others opted to just chill on the grass, sitting on soft blankets.

At 4.30pm, a formal 3-course meal was served. The carousel cake, which was made by Tickety Boo Cakes, had been cut before the meal. Speeches followed the food, which was provided by local caterers Vanilla in Allseasons. For the first dance the bride choose Iris by Goo Goo Dolls which was played by the Heaton House resident DJ, Krissi B. At 9pm, guests were all treated to hog roast.

Overall the occasion was praised by both family and guests as a huge success.
