DESTIN, Fla. - Feb. 4, 2016 - PRLog -- On February 12th and 13th, the Village of Baytowne Wharf will host the 27th annual Gumbo Festival “Pursue the Roux”. Seafood gumbo is a classic Southern dish that can be made in a variety of different ways. Area chefs of Destin, Florida will compete for bragging rights to win “Area’s Best Gumbo”, “People’s Choice” and “Best Display”. Guests can enjoy a wide assortment of gumbo creations and vote for their favorites at the popular winter festival over Presidents Day weekend. Sixteen local restaurants will be participating this year including Cabana Café, Crab Island Cantina, Surf Hut, and The Beach House.
At 4pm on Friday, the events will kick off at Fat Tuesday’s in Sandestin with a Crawfish Boil. The festival will resume at 12pm on Saturday with gumbo, live music, and family activities until 4pm. Guests will be given a wristband and taster’s guide as they visit each tent for gumbo samples. Dikki Du and the Zydeco Krewe will be on site providing live Zydeco music during the festival. The awards ceremony will begin at 4pm and include a panel of celebrity judges to award this year’s winners.
Tickets can be purchased in advance at Graffiti & the Funky Blues Shack, Aloha Surf Company, and the Sandestin Welcome Center for a discounted rate. Admission will also be granted at the event for tickets purchased upon arrival. A portion of the proceeds from the festival benefit Sandestin Foundation for Kids (SDFK), a local organization that allows for funds to be given to needy children and families quickly in the event of a tragedy.
Visitors to the Florida Panhandle can attend year-round events and celebrations while enjoying Gulf views and warm weather. Destin vacation rentals are available along the Emerald Coast and near the festival to provide overnight accommodations during the events.
