Fashion Revolution Week Raises Ethical Awareness

By: Get News

This month once again saw the reprisal of Fashion Revolution Week on the worlds’ runways and fashion events.   From 18th – 24th April people from all over the world were brought together to use the power of fashion to change the story for the people who make the world’s clothes and accessories. Sweatshops, child labour and unethical manufacturing processes in fashion have made for newsworthy stories for many years.  Now so, more than ever, the fashion industry has come together in a joint outpouring of social consciousness.

This years Fashion Revolution Day on 24th April, was bigger and better than ever before, especially here in the UK.  Registered charity, Fashion Revolution UK was keen to celebrate the British fashion industry as a force for good and organized events throughout the UK.

From Somerset House to the House Of Commons, from London to Glasgow, they held catwalk shows and panels discussions, film screenings and swapping evenings, school quizzes and fash-mobs – and fashion lovers, fashionistas and fashion students all united in expressing that they want to wear a different story. These events where designed to help promote Fashion Revolution’s message to ‘do things differently from now on!”

Katherine Peacock, CEO of modelagency.uk.com has long been a supporter of ethical practises within the fashion world and was delighted to see this years events were such a success. She says “with our commitment to supplying a diverse selection of models to countries worldwide, we are always looking into the way designers and clothing brands manufacture their ranges.  The industry is far more socially aware these days, and it is important to support every echelon of the fashion industry; and that includes the people who make the clothing for our models to wear.  Their place in the overall success of a garment or campaign, is just as important as the models who wear them, or the designers that create them.  To ensure they are treated fairly and given the tools to live well is a no-brainer to me.”

Fashion Revolution itself is a global movement uniting around an annual campaign. They plan to build considerable momentum over the next 5 years and achieve incredible impact together.  Katherine Peacock and modelagency.uk.com are fully behind the organisation and recognise the importance of bringing together people and organisations inside the fashion industry to offer their continued support.

The hashtag #whomademyclothes  continues to trend after the event, as supporters ask top named brands to show transparency in their manufacturing processes.

Model Agency is an agency supplying a diverse range of models of all ages, sizes, heights and ethnic groups, and fully supports ethical practices within the fashion industry.
