Resources Key to Mental Health Outreach for Northern Manhattan Community Groups
NEW YORK - April 27, 2016 - PRLog -- A Caring Hand - The Billy Esposito Foundation announced today its multicultural outreach on 'How to Help Grieving Children.' The campaign aims to build new relationships and affirm current ones with community organizations, diverse media and allies in New York City, especially Harlem and the Bronx.

"Over 4,000 children in New York City experience the death of an immediate family member each year. If you want to help them benefit from vital support services and be a resource during a crisis, I encourage your community organization to collaborate and call today," said Dr. Robin Goodman, A Caring Hand, Executive Director.

Following the successful launch on March 1, 2016 of the grief program for bilingual families, A Caring Hand hopes to build and expand its community engagement activities. Ongoing services are offered to NYC's poorest and most underserved communities, including African American, Caribbean, African, and Spanish Bilingual families.

"Our goals are to reduce the stigma of seeking help, increase awareness of resources, and provide access to services tailored to needs of the multicultural community and families of children ages 5-17," said Dr. Goodman.

Over the years A Caring Hand has worked with mothers and caretaker groups, schools, education and afterschool programs, foster care and family resource agencies, community and corporate health fairs, and creative artist programs.

A Caring Hand is available for presentations and collaborations with community, educational, arts, corporate, and professional groups on the topic of grief and coping skills; interactive child and family art activities; and consultations on grief related issues and loss.

"To go from the smartest child in class to the one whose parent or sibling died is traumatic. Grieving children hate feeling different. They don't know what to do with their new feelings of sadness, guilt, or anger. In our program children meet others who are going through the same thing. They learn that they are not alone. They find a safe place to share stories, learn coping skills, and have fun. The adult caregivers and community allies gain a support network, learn to be confident advocates and build a child's resilience," Dr. Goodman added.
