Shares of Alpha Natural Resources Inc. (NYSE: ANR) lost 49 cents to close at $7.53, Arch Coal Inc. (NYSE: ACI) fell 56 cents to close at $6.11 and James River Coal Co. (Nasdaq: JRCC) plunged 71 cents to close at $2.16 after Patriot Coal Corp. (NYSE: PCX) filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection yesterday.
